Building a learning platform that reached learners anywhere

The Situation

Cell-Ed set out to reach the learners most education technology quietly leaves behind: adults learning outside a classroom, often on a basic phone, often without dependable internet. Serving them meant meeting them on whatever device they already carried, rather than asking them to acquire a new one.

The harder problem sat behind that. Cell-Ed sold programs to partner organizations who needed visibility into their own learners, and content teams who needed to author and adapt material without waiting on engineers. The company came to us at inception, with the service defined and the platform still to build.

The Solution

We built the platform that allowed Cell-Ed to deliver personalized education and coaching at scale, including to learners without smartphones or reliable internet access.

The system combined an LMS, content-authoring tools, learner and partner management, coaching workflows, targeted messaging, reporting, and a dynamic learning engine capable of adapting courses and questionnaires based on learner input. Cell-Ed's staff and partner organizations used the platform to manage their programs and track learner progress, while learners could access the same educational experience through voice, SMS, web, iOS or Android.

Rather than building separate products for each channel, we created a single platform that managed the complete learner journey and delivered it through whatever technology was available to the learner.
